Intersex

What is intersex? A term for a variety of conditions in which a person is born with reproductive anatomy, sexual anatomy, or hormone levels outside what is generally considered “male” or “female.” Being intersex is naturally occurring variation in humans, and is not a medical problem. Because of this, surgeries or hormone therapy are not medically necessary. Estimates suggest that 1-2 in every 100 people in the United States are intersex.  What are some characteristics? There are many different ways to be intersex. Some people have genitals or internal sex organs that are outside the “male” and “female” categories (i.e. like a person with both ovarian and testicular tissue). Relationship Anarchy

This information is from the Attachment Project. What is it? Relationship anarchy has no definable rules. Relationships within this structure are fluid, and therefore have no solid differentiation between sexual, romantic, or platonic relationships. Instead, this structure is about breaking down societal relationship rules. In relationship anarchy, there is no standard definition or expectation of what a romantic relationship should look like – meaning there is no reason to use sex to differentiate or prioritize a romantic relationship from a platonic one. That is, both forms of relationships involve intimate or romantic connections with more than one person at a time. However, the main differences between...

Drug-Resistant Gonorrhea

By: Riley Fortier, M.Ed. What is gonorrhea? Gonorrhea is the second most commonly reported STI in the United States. There are 500,000 reported cases in the United States per year, but the CDC suggests it is underreported and is likely closer to 1.5 million cases per year. About half of all infections are resistant to at least one antibiotic. There is currently only one treatment recommendation remaining.   Antimicrobial resistance happens when bacteria and fungi develop the ability to resist, or defeat, the drugs designed to kill them. For example, gonorrhea has developed resistance to nearly all antibiotics used for its treatment. There is currently only one last recommended and effective class of antibiotics for it: cephalosporins.  Preparing to detect and respond to resistant strains (1) Hiring and training state and...

Enneagram

What is an enneagram? The enneagram is an emotionally-focused system of personality, aimed to help people better understand themselves and others. To that end, it focuses on one’s core motivations and fears. Each of the nine personality types have their own driving force, which is centered around a particular emotion.  What types of enneagrams are there? Heart types depend on their emotional intelligence to understand their own reactions and connect with others. Head types depend on their intellectual intelligence to make sense of things and navigate the world around them.  Body types depend on their instinctual intelligence to follow their “gut” to respond to threats and opportunities.  The 9 types Heart Types Two The Giver  Twos want to be liked and find ways that they can be helpful to others so that they...
