To the LGBTQIAP+ community: We are allies to all. We support others in the pursuit of equality. And we want you to know that you are welcome among us at any time.
When we opened up Fishtown Wellness Center and Personal Evolution, it was with the understanding that everyone deserves to better themselves, to know themselves, and to feel empowered by that knowledge. That is why we have programs that discuss the importance of things like racial equity, social justice, and the equality of LGBTQIAP+ individuals.
Despite the discussion happening in Washington, D.C. about the equality of the LGBTQIAP+ community, many LGBTQIAP+ Americans continue to face challenges every single day, such as harassment, discrimination, bullying, violence.
When the Supreme Court ruled marriage equality as a right in 2015, we openly celebrated. But we knew the fight was not over. Following that victory, the Supreme Court also ruled that LGBTQ+ workers are protected from workplace discrimination, but the community as a whole is still under threat to this very day.
We at Personal Evolution and Fishtown Wellness Center strongly oppose all effort, regardless of the source—citizen or government—that would limit or deny the equality and civil rights of those within the LGBTQIAP+ community. We work to dismantle systems of oppression that marginalize and target gender expansive and trans folx, particularly within mental and behavioral health.
