Who We Are And What We Do

Alison Zimmer

Alison Zimmer, M.S. (she/her) is a pre-licensed mental health counselor who works with individuals, couples, and families. She also works with friends who want support navigating conflict, disconnection, or other challenges within their relationship.

Alison believes that being a person in the world can ask a lot of us. We are often expected to keep going, producing, and showing up, even when we are exhausted or overwhelmed. She is particularly interested in supporting people experiencing anxiety and loneliness, as well as those navigating self-discovery. Rather than viewing every struggle as something that needs to be fixed, she believes in slowing down and getting curious about what is happening underneath it.

Alison’s presence in the room is warm, curious, and direct. She brings humor into the room and believes there is space in therapy for both depth and lightness. Her approach is person-centered, attachment-based, and systemic.

Before becoming a therapist, Alison spent many years working in hospitality, an experience that shaped her understanding of the importance of caring for others and making people feel seen and heard. Becoming a therapist later in her career also informs her belief that there is no single timeline for becoming who you are or building a life that feels like your own.

Alison as a Human

Alison has called Philadelphia home for 21 years. Fun fact: she lived in the same apartment on Pine Street for almost all of them before moving into the loft of her dreams in Port Richmond, where she lives with her longtime partner and their two dogs, Honey and Luna. She values friendship, honesty, and openness. A classic overthinker, Alison is happiest when she can get out of her head and into the world around her. A “city girl” at heart, she loves the Philly food scene and dancing, but also appreciates being in nature and especially loves the beach. She tries to stay off her phone as much as possible and likes to think of herself as an analog girl in a digital world.
