Who We Are And What We Do

Jan Horner

Pre-licensed Professional Counselor

Hi! My name is Jan Horner. I received a Master of Science in Counselor Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2016. Additionally, I am a pre-licensed mental health counselor working under the supervision of Katherine Glick, LPC (LPC Lic # 37PC00477600, PC009315). I completed a Master’s degree as part of a CACREP-accredited program, which gave me insight into utilizing eclectic counseling techniques to assist individuals of all ages from different cultures, socioeconomic statuses, and religious/spiritual backgrounds.

Caring, authentic and strong connection between clients and the therapist is essential to facilitate meaningful change. It is a privilege to be to be invited to participate in another person’s transformational journey. The invitation to be in a healing relationship must be met with respect, authentic compassion, and real human-to-human engagement. My role as a therapist is to not only help clients heal the inevitable relational wounds, but also to help them cultivate the resilience to live life with clarity, courage, and compassion.

The philosophical backing for my work is found in Relational-Cultural Theory (RCT). RCT posits that we grow through and towards healthy relationships. We are hardwired to connect. Therapy helps make sure those connections are healthy. I help clients find the changes they seek by responding to the needs and challenges that emerge. As a therapist, I listen and respond as a non-judgmental witness trying to understand how all the parts of their experience affect movement toward their desired goals.
